Our high-throughput screen for novel mitochondrial proteins published in Nature Chemical Biology

A study led by Biochemistry Ph.D. student Simon Wisnovsky leveraged mitochondria-specific chemical probes developed in the Kelley group to screen for new proteins with mitochondrial function. By looking at the synergistic activity of chemical probes and siRNAs that knocked down known nuclear repair factors, a variety of hits were identified. The set of proteins that were found in the screen were confirmed to exhibit mitochondrial localization, and several, including a DNA polymerase that had never been connected with mitohcondria previously, were shown to be essential for efficient mitochondrial function. The paper appeared in Nature Chemical Biology.
